Appearance: Link Kaya is a frail girl, since she has a mysterious illness that mimics tuberculosis, she has dark brown to black hair and dark eyes. She looks human because she is completely human.

Background:
Kaya is introduced into the manga after Zeno, the original yellow dragon of legend, had been wondering for quite some time. She found the other passed out on the road and brought him back to her home. When he awoke and mentioned wanting to die after she offered him food, it saddened Kaya because of her own short life. Later that night she collapsed because of her illness, even coughing up blood, Zeno then began to care for her in return. When she asked him his name he paused before he said it, he had almost forgotten it because he hadn’t been called by his name for so long. It's then that Kaya suggested talking to himself in third person; he mentioned it sounded a little childish but she laughed. She had done it since she was small because no one could be around her with her illness. Naturally it was very lonely for her and the way of talking helped. She then thanked him before falling asleep, though Zeno mistook her for saying 'goodbye' and dying. She quickly awoke when Zeno panicked and Zeno then offered to live with her, since he couldn’t get sick.
Time passed and they spent more time together and taught one another, it was due to this time together that Zeno learned to live again. It was clear though, with her coughing fits and frail body that she didn’t have long to live. Still Zeno cared for Kaya and even worked to help her with food, medicine and other things. Zeno was the first person to ever stay with her and while she did love that, at the same time she didn’t want him to get ill or be left behind when she died. So when she tried to push him away a final time, but he then surprised her and asked her to marry him. In tears she accepted his proposal and they were married.
As time passed Zeno plead to the dragon gods to spare Kaya, saying if they did he would be their servant for all time. His prayers went unanswered and after some time passed, Kaya on her death bed wished for Zeno to meet her again in the heavens. Never knowing, after all their time together that Zeno could never die. He promised holding her hand as she passed away. Even after her death Zeno remained at her side, until the hand he held once full of life turned into nothing but bones.
Personality:
Despite Kaya's short time in life, and in the manga, she was able to make a major impact. She was kind and lively, and gave others a reason to love life. Even if she could be a little childish in her mannerisms at times, she tried to enjoy her life and find happiness even in the simplest tasks. However, in her time with Zeno she was able to grow a lot and learn, that despite her sickness, she was allowed to wish to be around others.
Before meeting Zeno, Kaya was always alone, since her illness was contagious, and with this she developed certain habits. Kaya acted childish, speaking in third person, and tried to be optimistic about most things. When in reality she could be rather gloomy when she was left to her thoughts. She knew that she wouldn’t live long and with that she realized she wasn’t able to be around others. Even with this the knowledge it was still painful and she found ways to preoccupy herself in attempts to busy her mind. It was because of this sort of action that she found Zeno and brought him home.
Considerate and kind, the main reason she helped Zeno was to get him better so he could leave, she never expected him to help her with her loneliness. Although it was soon apparent that they had began to bond with one another. While they were similar in their loneliness, she never pushed him to discuss his past. Instead, she simply stayed with him and tried to help him smile again. It was because of this time that a brighter side of Kaya began to shine through. Living together she told him how she coped with her loneliness and even taught him to not worry over small matters. Kaya celebrated even the smallest things with Zeno and they both learned to laugh again. Though this still made it hard for Kaya when she thought of her future and ultimately how short their time together would. It was because of this that voiced how she wished they could stay like this forever, not knowing Zeno’s dragon curse. In fear she tried to push him away after she had strong attack from her illness. This was something that ended up backfiring on her when he asked her to marry him and she happily became his wife. She easily got emotional over such a thing and cried her eyes out in front of him. Showing how emotional she could be in different matters, after all she loved him the most in the world.
Honestly while she brought out good in Zeno, he did far more for Kaya. When she was around him she was able to smile again. Playfully teasing the other and even joking about situations around them or the things Zeno would do, it showed just how loving and cheerful she was. Even when she was finally on her death bed, she was able to smile at Zeno. She was sorry that she would be leaving him. She did have the selfish wish for them to meet once more in heaven before she passes away. It was with this wish that she hoped it would comfort him that they wouldn’t be apart for long and they would meet again.
Even if Kaya’s life was short she was a bright, cheerful and lively person. She wanted to enjoy her life as much as she could and to be with someone. With that wish she was able to give reason for another to live. Even if their situations were opposite, in some ways, they were able to enjoy one another’s presence and live as long as they could together.
While Kaya does appear happy there is also a great deal of sadness for Kaya in her life and in many ways it helped shaped her personality. While she showed a bright face to Zeno and others, there were times it was masked her real feelings. Kaya would reflect inward and lose herself to her thoughts. One time this was shown was when she was happily laughing one moment and then she quietly mentioned how she wished they could remain happy and together forever, this showed just how quick her thoughts could grab her attention. That even with her cheerful demeanor she still thought of her future and the fact that she would die. After all death, something that most people never want to think about, is something that was always hung over Kaya’s head and it was a reality she couldn't escape. So it was because of this gloom and depression, that she also went out of her way to avoid people around her. Even when she’s with Zeno they are seen alone together, this is mainly because Kaya's illness, but it was also because she was scared to be around others. If she went near people they could get sick or even die and that thought saddened and scared her. That is one of the reasons why she tried to push Zeno away, even though he told her he wouldn’t get sick, she still worried about it and it scared her that he might.
With this fact it can be assumed that even when Kaya does meet new people the likelihood of her trying to distance herself at first is very possible. While she might offer them a smile and act like sort of oblivious or childish, deep down she would worry that they could get sick. So it becomes easier for her to wear a mask and it became a defense and coping mechanism to prevent Kaya and others from getting hurt. The time that she is truly happy is when she’s with Zeno and it’s because of his love and stubbornness that she started to open up from her closed self.
Abilities:
For abilities Kaya is completely human. She doesn't have any special powers or skills. The most she can do is find a way to laugh even through the toughest of situations. Physically though she is frail and sickly, so there would be little she could do on her own in a fight besides hiding.
As far as 'domestic' skills, Kaya can cook and clean, being pretty self-sufficient and a very hard worker from living on her own most of her life. Despite her illness she still tries to help others, aiding with first aid when it’s needed. So while she might be physically weak she will still try her hardest to do all she can.
